THE « PECKVILLCHEN » BY ÄERD LAB
The faces behind the product
ANGELIKA BOCIAN-JAWORSKA
Angelika Bocian-Jaworska created Äerd Lab with an approach as innovative as it is offbeat: an architect trained in Liechtenstein with a semester in Shanghai, she combines the desire for sustainability and robotics to imagine clay bricks printed from waste—a gesture that goes back to the fundamentals of Earth, or rather of Luxembourg’s Äerd. She claims this double meaning in the name of her brand, a sign of her identity and commitment. Always in a fun and local spirit, she even printed 3D Péckvillercher for the Luxembourg National Day. Today she is presented as a “Business Artist”: her materials are technological, but her discourse remains warm and creative.
The product and its values
THE « PÉCKVILLCHEN »
At Äerd Lab, Luxembourg clay becomes a field of exploration that’s both technical and cultural. This desire to link innovation and heritage takes on its full meaning in the project around the Péckvillchen, a small terracotta whistle in the shape of a bird, a beloved symbol of Luxembourg craftsmanship. To revisit this iconic object, Äerd Lab designed a 3D printed version using local clay, merging the gestures of the past with the tools of today. In order to preserve the authenticity of the sound and proportions, Angelika Bocian-Jaworska benefitted from the advice of Usch Biver, a master potter in Nospelt and an essential figure in the world of Péckvillercher. The result: an object that is both familiar and innovative, which demonstrates a sincere desire to bring the memory of forms into dialogue with contemporary technologies.
