The faces behind the product

DEAN KAUFFMAN AND MICHEL SCHON

Innovation is a field in which Luxembourg’s Dean Kauffman, a mechanical engineer, and Michel Schon, a specialist in industrial design, are exemplary. What is their business sector? The production of 3D printed parts, from one-offs to mass production, in high-performance materials ranging from plastic to metal. For example, as gifts for their 3D Print clients, Dean and Michel created a Péckvillchen inspired by the official signature of Luxembourg. “It’s a nod to the local culture and we thought it was amusing to offer a traditional product with a different printing method”. Among many other objects, the duo also designed the first bottle opener made entirely of plastic and without metal teeth. “What we like about 3D printing, apart from the freedom of design, is that we can see the result in a few hours: we don’t have to wait several days to find out if our idea works”.
