POSTER AND POSTCARD BY FLORENCE WEISER
The face behind the product
When she was little, Florence Weiser just wanted to draw tablecloths! She was fascinated by the patterns she saw on them, and as a young girl she preferred pencils to toys, and wanted to “make things that were beautiful to the eye”! Loyal to her ambitions, after growing up in Luxembourg, Florence studied illustration at the ESA Saint-Luc in Brussels, then at the École des Gobelins and the École Estienne in Paris. Her final year’s work was spotted by a Belgian publisher, and this allowed her to plunge into children’s literature right away where she would start dipping her paint brushes. It’s a world she was already familiar with and loved, having devoured many an album and grown up surrounded by books! After starting out illustrating in Belgium, Luxembourg and France, Florence was soon approached by an agent in the United States and she saw an international market opening up that would have been difficult to access on her own. So here she is now, illustrating several English language albums, and beginning to make a name for herself among publishers.. What she loves most of all is being inspired by nature and animals, and making the most of the design and colours options to create gentle, happy, amusing and poetic scenes.
The product and its values
POSTER AND POSTCARD
The Luxembourg of Florence is a tolerant country, open to gender diversity, which respects communities and where everyone is free to live as they see fit. So what we’re really talking about here is love and tenderness, for which a floral landscape in the colours of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is the perfect backdrop. The illustrator’s intention is above all to evoke a feeling of harmony by drawing a space where everyone can feel welcome and live in peace. In the end, it’s better than drawing tablecloths – or at least just as good – isn’t it?
